FIELD: non-destructive ultrasonic testing. SUBSTANCE: given method is intended for detection, visualization and determination of dimensions of defects. Ultrasonic piezoconvertor of flaw detector uniformly scans article along spiral with certain spacing of spiral and with scanning spacing whose values do not exceed value of width of ultrasonic beam. Data array of distribution of echo signals with referencing of each measurement to proper coordinate is formed in storage of system of information processing and control. Number of points where defect is detected is fixed and configuration and location of defect are determined by assemblage of these points. Its area is found by formula S=N l h, where S is area of defect, h is spiral spacing, N is number of points in which defect was fixed, l is spacing of scanning along spiral.
