FIELD: fuel and lube oil technology. SUBSTANCE: method of preparing sulfur-containing additives showing improved antiscuffing and antiwear properties as well as high thermal-oxidation resistance, consists in interaction of olefin C16-C25-fraction or dicyclopentadiene with sulfur at 130-150 C for 6 h in presence of 0.5-5% catalyst, in particular zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate depicted by formula I: (I), wherein R denotes isopropyl or isobutyl group and R' n-dodecyl or isononyl group. Sulfur level in additive is increased by 10-11% when compared to known additives. EFFECT: increased working characteristics and avoided catalyst removal operation in preparation procedure.
