FIELD: paint and varnish industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to technique of producing mother-of-pearl pigments and can be used in paint and varnish industry and for production of high-quality paint and varnish materials used for different aims. Method of producing mother-of-pearl pigments involves application of pigment thin layer on mica particles surface using adhesive substances for hardening thin layer of pigment and its adhesion on surface of mica particles. Zinc white or zinc oxide, sodium water glass or sodium silicate are used as adhesive substances. Application of pigments thin layer on mica particles surface is carried out at intensive stirring an aqueous suspension of the following composition, wt.-%: zinc white or zinc oxide, 2- 3; pigment, 2-5; sodium polyphosphate, 0.3-0.6; sodium water glass or sodium silicate as measured for Na₂SiO₃, 2-5; mica particles, 20-35; water, the balance. Mica particles with the applied pigment layer and adhesive substances are separated from an aqueous solution by filtration, dried at 35 C, not above, for 12 h, not less, subjected for thermic treatment at 11-110 C for 2 h, cooled at temperature of environment, ground, washed out from pigment and adhesive substances excess and dried at 20-110 C.
