FIELD: metallurgy, processing of iron-carrying materials of waste of metallurgical plants. SUBSTANCE: proposed technology can also be employed in ferrous metallurgy to recover easily sublimated non-ferrous metals from dust, slime, ore for simultaneous winning of starting material for melting of steel or cast iron. Technology of processing of iron-carrying materials in compliance with first variant includes loading of burden containing starting material and reductant into vertically installed furnace from above, heating of burden, reduction of oxides, sublimation of zinc, removal of formed gasses and vapors of zinc, cooling of gases and vapors of zinc with subsequent condensation of zinc, trapping of zinc. Lump reductant in specified amount is additionally injected into furnace prior to burden loading, column of burden is heated from beneath with the help of electrodes to temperature of 1100-2200 C. Salient feature of this approach lies in that formed gases and vapors of zinc are removed from furnace separately, vapors of zinc being removed through additional offtake pipe. Technology of processing of iron-carrying materials in agreement with second variant provides for removal of formed gases and vapors of zinc from furnace through layer of lump solid reductant which improves technology of processing of iron-carrying materials by way of prevention of stage of metallization of iron prior to reduction of zinc. EFFECT: raised quality of zinc product thanks to reduced total amount of produced gases, increased concentration of zinc in gas flow and decreased energy consumption. 2 cl, 2 dwg, 1 tbl
