METHOD OF AND PLASMA CONVERTER FOR PLASMA CONVERSION OF ENGINE FUELS INTO SYNTHESIS GAS Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

Abstract RU 2182239 C2

FIELD: mechanical engineering; automotive engines; chemical and petroleum-refining industries and power engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and device for plasma conversion of liquid hydrocarbons, for instance, engine fuels, into synthesis gas using UHF plasma in presence of air or oxygen and, possibly, water. Proposed method of plasma conversion of engine fuels into synthesis gas comes to the following: reactions of steam - air or air plasma conversion of hydrocarbons contained in engine fuel are carried out with preliminary heating of air. Part of engine fuel is combusted in combustion chamber and the rest is mixed with combustion products and steam, or only with combustion products, and is directed into plasma generator where conversion of engine fuel is carried out in pulse periodical pseudocorona UHF discharge at atmospheric pressure. Plasma converter has air heater, combustion chamber and plasma generator in form of pseudocorona UHF discharge device. Supply source of plasma generator is made in form of UHF periodical pulse generator, for instance, SHF or UHF wave generator with pulse time of 0.1-1.0 mcek and on-off time ratio of 100 to 1000. Combustion chamber installed between heater and plasma generator in gas flow line is provided with two separating branch pipes to let in reagents. EFFECT: reduced power consumption at preservation of high specific capacity. 13 cl, 3 dwg
