FIELD: electrical engineering; removing sheathing material from cable having one or more optical fibers. SUBSTANCE: method involves conveying hot gas stream to cable to soften sheathing material and to blow this material off the cable. Novelty is that hot gas stream has high enough temperature to soften sheathing material and high enough speed to fully remove it from fiber-optic cable section and to obtain clean naked optical fiber. Device implementing proposed method has source of hot gas non-reacting with sheathing material and means for conveying this gas flow to fiber-optic cable section of definite length. In this way clean naked surface of optical fiber is attained without mechanical treatment. EFFECT: facilitated nonpolluting procedure, reduced cost. 21 cl, 13 dwg
