FIELD: optical communication. SUBSTANCE: symmetric fiber-optical cable with controllable dispersion has first and second optical fibers. First optical fiber is traditional single-mode fiber and has first effective area and positive dispersion characteristic in specified working range of wave lengths. First optical fiber is divided into two parts, substantially of equal length. Second optical fiber has second effective area and negative dispersion characteristic in specified working range of wave lengths. Second fiber is fiber with displaced dispersion or fiber with non-zero dispersion which have negative dispersion and small effective area. Second optical fiber is placed between two parts of first fiber to obtain optical cable with average full dispersion in working range of wave lengths equal to zero in essence. This fiber-optical cable can be built into fiber communication transmission system carrying optical terminal and at least one regenerator.
