FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method of preparing magnesium chlorate material for electrolytic production of magnesium and chlorine involves loading anhydrous carnallite into a chlorination melting pot, melting, feeding the molten material into a chlorination chamber, mixing with a chlorine-containing gas, settling and taking the ready product to the process for producing magnesium and chlorine. A prepared mixture of solid chlorides of magnesium, potassium and sodium is continuously fed into the chlorination melting pot on the surface of the molten anhydrous carnallite with mass ratio magnesium : potassium chloride : sodium chloride equal to 1:(0.8-0.9):(0.1-0.2). A mixture of chlorides of magnesium, potassium and sodium with anhydrous carnallite is obtained, with mass ratio of 1:(1-10). The said mixture is heated to temperature 500-600°C, melted, stirred, and settled. The clarified part is separated and taken for the process of electrolytic production of magnesium and chlorine.

EFFECT: reduced consumption of anhydrous carnallite at 10-50%, reduced consumption of electrical energy, reduced content iron, sulphur and magnesium oxide impurities in 2 times.
