FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention describes a method of synthesis of aromatic compound substituted with tertiary nitrile of the formula (1.0.0): including treatment of the substituted aromatic compound of the formula (2.0.0): with secondary nitrile of the formula (3.0.0): in the presence of a base with number value pKa in the range from about 17 to about 30 under condition that the difference between number values pKa of the indicated base and the corresponding tertiary nitrile of the formula (3.0.0) is about 6, not above. Treatment is carried out in an aprotonic solvent with dielectric constant (ε) less about 20 and at temperature of reaction in the range from about 0 C to 120 C to yield the end aromatic compound of the formula (1.0.0) substituted with tertiary nitrile where components W1, W2, W3, W4, W5 and fragments of substituents R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 in compounds of the formulas (1.0.0), (2.0.0) and (3.0.0) are taken among the known organic groups and radicals with values given in the description.
