FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: process consists in interaction of aromatic compounds with condensation agent in presence of catalysts. For instance, an aromatic compound reacts with dimethoxymethane in presence of acid catalyst at 80 to 400 C. Process includes following stages: (1) interaction of alcohol with formaldehyde in presence of acid catalyst to give acetal; (2) interaction of acetal with aromatic compound in presence of acid catalyst to give reaction mixture containing diarylmethane or its derivatives and alcohol; (3) separation and reduction of diarylmethane or its derivatives and alcohol from reaction mixture; and (4) recycle of at least a part of reduced alcohol into stage (1).
