FIELD: waterproofing agents. SUBSTANCE: invention provides method for controlling hydrophobization of solid surface of natural and man-caused porous media when applying waterproofing chemicals and can be used in various areas, including petroleum industry. Method consists in determining intensity of adsorption processes for a chemical from aqueous solution on the surface of porous medium sample. Sample is successively brought into contact with aqueous solution of electrolyte, constant pressure drop between sample "inlet" and "outlet" is created and maintained until stationary state of filtration process and formation of hydrophilic ionic hydrate layer on the surface of porous medium is attained, after which chemicals are laid on the inlet of porous medium sample. Waterproofing properties are determined from intensity of the processes of desorption of electrically active components of hydrophilic ion-hydrate layer electrochemically coupled with destruction processes accompanying adsorption of chemicals on the porous medium surface. As aqueous solution of electrolyte, oil-field water or its model is used. Attainment of the above-mentioned stationary state is controlled from the flow potential. Said intensity of desorption processes is electrometrically determined as the flow potential: by direct measurement of potential difference between "inlet" and "outlet" of the sample using inert metal electrode couple.
