FIELD: carbon sorbents. SUBSTANCE: group of invention relates to above-named materials and electrochemical regeneration thereof involving removal of organics and heavy metals, which can be used for treatment of both liquid and gas media. Material consists of porous matrix of activated carbon particles, one of matrix components being particles with linear dimensions no larger than 30 mcm and volumetric conductivity of matrix being from 1 to 100 Ohm. m. Material additionally contains activated carbon fibers 1 mm long, conducting particles, or ion- exchange material. Regeneration process consisting of removing adsorbed substances is accomplished by filling adsorbent bed with electrolyte solution followed by passage of electric current. The latter operation is distinguished by that volumetric conductivity of carbon material during operation differs from that of electrolyte by no more than one order of magnitude and electric current is passed at specific density at least 0.01 A per 1 g of carbon material. EFFECT: increased degree of removal of impurities. 32 cl, 4 dwg, 16 tbl, 11 ex
