FIELD: hydrophobization of materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for controlling hydrophobization of solid surfaces of natural and man-made porous media, when hydrophobizing reagents are employed, and can be applied in a variety of areas, including petroleum industry. Determination of intensity of adsorption of reagents on porous surface from aqueous solution consists in that porous medium is brought into contact with aqueous solution of electrolyte until equilibrium formation of hydrophilic hydrate ion layer on porous medium surface is completed, after which test reagents are added and their hydrophobizing properties are determined from intensity of processes of desorption of electroactive components of hydrate ion layer electrochemically conjugated with processes of destruction of this layer upon adsorption of test reagents on surface of porous medium.
