FIELD: steelmaking. SUBSTANCE: process comprises charging light-weight scrap, limestone, and the rest of scrap, loading solid heat carrier, heating, pouring out liquid cast iron, smelting, and final melting, said solid heat carrier being cast iron scrap, consumption of which is determined from following expression: cast iron scrap = 0.84*scrap-1.727*cast iron+160.71*C+71.65 (C denotes content of carbon in final metal). EFFECT: by 20-25% (abs) reduced specific consumption of liquid cast iron, weakened harmful effect of slag on lining of open-hearth furnace, and increased (by 3-5%) resistance of lining.
