FIELD: determination of levels of immiscible fluid media in tanks. SUBSTANCE: device includes transmitter of communication line laid vertically inside tank for contact with fluids inside it. Generator for transmission of first electric signal which continuously sweeps in specified frequency range is connected to transmitter. Voltage detector is connected to transmitter to form second electric signal which varies as function of amplitude of electric energy reflected into transmitter from various inhomogeneities of impedance along transmitter that specifically includes separation surfaces between immiscible fluid medium surrounding transmitter. Frequency-spectral characteristics of second electric signal are analyzed to determine spatial distribution of impedance along transmitter from which levels of immiscible fluid media inside tank are determined. EFFECT: simplified realization of potential of determination of level of each separation surface of immiscible fluid media inside tank. 7 cl, 3 dwg
