FIELD: coding papillary patterns. SUBSTANCE: method used for identifying person by finger-prints and palm-prints involves recording numbered characteristics in vicinity of clear print at the same time determining their coordinates, direction angle, and combed count between characteristics of requested and archive data on finger- prints. Novelty is that nest is constructed for each characteristic to receive at least two characteristics, all nests of requested and archive finger-prints are compared, and at least one best pair of nests is formed from those containing requested and archive finger-prints; fragments of requested and archive finger-prints are concurrently developed from each separated pair of nests by transferring from one pair of nests to other on the way of best comparison of nests, estimates of nest comparison are accumulated for each way of fragment development, and best way is chosen.
