FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: fingerprint encoding method involves selecting lines and features on a fingerprint, numbering the features, determining, for each feature, a direction vector, coordinate, type of feature, two projections on neighbouring lines, topological characteristic in form of a numbered set of pairs represented by an event in form of a figure and a number of the corresponding feature, where the event is detected when moving on the connection from the cross-section which passes through the feature to the right and to the left by a depth of several lines perpendicular to tangents to intersected lines, giving in each topological characteristic at least one ridge counting value between the feature which forms the cross-section and the feature whose number is indicated in the topological characteristic. The ridge counting value is given depending on the event, the number of which is given in the topological characteristic and on the number of transitions from line to line on the cross-section up to that connection on which the event is detected.
EFFECT: high reliability of fingerprint identification.
