FIELD: authenticating documents. SUBSTANCE: method is designed for authenticating documents bearing optical diffraction layers and especially those with holograms and may be used both in document authenticating machines and manual currency processing apparatuses for authenticating documents bearing optical diffraction layers. Novelty is that for authenticating documents electric conductivity is determined and evaluated using capacitive coupling between transmitter and receiver and energy transfer between transmitter and receiver through electricity conducting protective materials for authenticating documents bearing optical diffraction layers with intermittent deposited-metal layers or partially metal-deposited layers, or regions of metal layers in different planes.
