FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: process is realized by non-catalytic hydration of ethylene oxide at 150-190 C utilizing recycle water to prepare reaction blend. Concentration of acetaldehyde 0.00005-0.001% is maintained by way of preliminarily distilling away aldehydes from water recycle stream after the first evaporation apparatus before blend preparation stage or by treating recycle water with sodium borohydride. EFFECT: increased purity of monoethylene glycol due to reduced formation of organic pollutants and decreased loss of monoethylene glycol during isolation stages. 2 cl, 2 dwg, 7 ex
