FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: process of hydration of ethylene oxide is carried out at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of acetaldehyde and/or crotonic aldehyde in amount of 0.002-0.2 wt.% with monoethylene glycol content of 10-30 wt.% in reaction blend followed by treatment of the resulting reaction mixture with alkali agent, evaporation and recovery of desired products by rectification. EFFECT: lower yield of heavy ethylene glycols and concentrated solution of ethylene glycols. 14 ex, 1 tbl
