FIELD: power generating plants. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in automotive industry, basic engineering industry, small size power generation, in particular, as vehicle auxiliary engines, on mobile and portable power generating units, electric welding sets, etc. proposed free-piston engine has internal combustion diesel engine consisting of cylinder with nozzles accommodating piston with rod, linear generator with stator windings arranged on cylinder and armature winding arranged in piston and interacting with excitation system consisting of brushes with wires to supply excitation, load takeoff system and cooling system. Engine is provided with two cutoff rings secured on rod between armature winding and end face parts of piston, and cooling tubes connected with intra-piston chamber. Armature winding is located on piston rod. Each cutoff ring is placed between winding and end face parts of piston, and brushes are installed in cylinder body. Each cutoff ring is hollow and is provided with valve to communicate with coolant supply tube. EFFECT: reduced losses of magnetic field by 30-50% owing to provision of armature winding temperature within +20 and -20 C during operation of engine with resulting increase in efficiency. 2 cl, 2 dwg
