FIELD: diagnostics and monitoring of state of linear sections of main pipe lines; prompt monitoring of linear section of pipe lines. SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in sending pulse directly to pipe line following-up the dynamics of change of reflected pulses from electrical inhomogeneity of pipe line proper; information thus obtained is compared with that available in data base to estimate spread of defects in pipe line. EFFECT: possibility of obtaining complete information of pipe line state; reduced expenses for performing the process by sensing pulses of microsecond duration to pipe line proper, but not in coaxial cable laid nearby.
