FIELD: chemical technology, catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of ammonia conversion in two-step catalytic systems and can be used in production of nitric and hydrocyanic acids mainly and hydroxylamine sulfate also. Catalytic element for ammonia conversion comprises the step made of platinoid nettings and the step made of catalyst of regular cellular structure and has additionally a layer of thermostable ceramic carrier-trap of platinum of regular cellular structure as the third step where the step comprising catalyst of regular cellular structure is placed before the step made of platinoid netting layers or after its. Method of catalytic conversion of ammonia involves passing the reaction gaseous mixture containing ammonia and oxygen-containing gas through two-step catalytic system comprising the step made of platinoid netting layers, step made of catalyst of regular cellular structure and a ceramic carrier as a platinum trap showing the cellular structure which is changed by places with catalyst of regular cellular structure. The realization of the invention results to decrease of platinoids enclosures, increase time of platinum catalyst working with simultaneous platinum trapping and the following its recovery to manufacturing process, decrease of platinum loss. EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness of catalyst, improved method of conversion. 10 cl, 5 ex
