FIELD: inorganic production catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalytic elements useful in nitric acid production (contact method) and in all other processes involving catalytic ammonia conversion stage. Catalytic element consists of a packet of gauze platinoid elements with nonmetal separating inserts. The latter are modified with platinum-, palladium-, chromium oxide-, or cobalt oxide-based active phase in amount of 0.0001 to 0.01 wt.% of separating insert. Catalytic element is distinguished by speeder establishment of optimal operation condition at the same platinoid consumption factor (0.055-0.065 g/t). EFFECT: enhanced catalyst efficiency.
