SUBSTANCE: for initiating reaction by this method less than 5% of total catalytic surface should be best maintained at temperature level higher than ambient by conveying energy either from local power storage or from central power supply. Device has housing 24, heat conductor 22, at least one catalyst body 2 having desired catalytic surface, and power supply. The latter has power source and electric heating device 6. Provision is made for permanent heating of central part of catalytic surface and for passive removal of hydrogen in due time.
