FIELD: metallurgy, namely sheet steel rolling. SUBSTANCE: method comprises use of variable cross section rolls, their radial adjustment and changing at operation profile of barrel of mean roll because of roll wear. Method comprises steps of rolling strip at counterbending it in passes between upper and lower rolls while mutually balancing axial efforts acting upon portions of roll barrel due to profiling three rolls in such a way that said rolls have in two their halves profile symmetrical relative to central vertical axis. Each roll half has cylindrical portion corresponding to edge of rolled strip, cone portion in mean part adjoining to vertical axis of rolls with opposite sign of conicity of mean and adjoining to vertical axis portions of each roll and with opposite sign of conicity in portions of non-driven roll relative to conicity of respective portions of drive rolls. Mean portions of non-driven roll have doubled conicity. At rolling mean roll is centered relative to upper or lower roll independently upon change of its profile during operation due to equal inclination angles relative to vertical line of generatrices of cone surfaces in portions adjoining to central vertical axis of rolls. EFFECT: possibility for elimination of axial efforts acting upon rolls without any special apparatus. 1 dwg
