FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of cooling of internal combustion engines and cleaning of cooling air. Proposed method comes to the following: with engine operating, its shaft drives through clutch a hydraulic pump of positive displacement drive which, in its turn, drives hydraulic motor with fan making cooling air pass through radiator. Speed of fan is changed by adjusting positive displacement drive depending on engine temperature conditions. If engine is used on agricultural machine, necessity arises to clean radiator or its grille from trash. For this purpose direction of fan rotation is changed for a short period by reversing hydraulic motor. Simultaneously positive displacement hydraulic drive is adjusted to provide maximum speed of rotation of hydraulic motor with fan and create maximum possible air head to blow out trash accumulated on radiator grille.
