FIELD: diagnosing cable lines and locating flaws on their route. SUBSTANCE: method involves simultaneous estimation of changes in magnetic field strength built up by generator current at plurality of points disposed in same plane parallel to ground surface above cable line under inspection and processing of measurement results by means of minicomputer to obtain three-dimensional pattern of magnetic-field structure in desired plane which is used for diagnosing cable line and detecting flaw by changes in magnetic field structure in vicinity of flaw.
