FIELD: nuclear power engineering; reactor control and protection systems. SUBSTANCE: control element has sections with neutron absorbing material-hanger-mounted in cooled channel wherein they are free to move along this channel. It is provided with sleeve incorporating individual channels equally spaced from sleeve axis and used to hold sections with neutron absorbing material. Each neutron-absorbing section is joined with hanger. Sleeve outer diameter d is chosen between 0.937D and 0.976D, where D is inner diameter of cooled channel. Control element is easily entered into reactor core throughout its entire length and in case of emergency it takes short time to do so.
