FIELD: material cutting, namely rapid evaluation of degree of workability of different materials such as new alloys, welded-on materials, composite materials and well known steels and alloys in changed cutting conditions, for example in number program control machine tools. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of measuring cutting effort, cutting speed; registering instantaneous values of cutting efforts; determining frequency of shifting chip members at cutting process along thickness of said members; measuring in addition mean temperature of cutting; obtaining according to given formula dependence of frequency of shifting chip members upon parameter taking into account power and mean temperature of cutting; at working process determining frequency of instantaneous cutting efforts; according to received dependence determining value of correlated parameter allowing to evaluate workability degree. EFFECT: enlarged range of evaluating workability of materials at changeable cutting conditions, possibility for predicting workability of new kinds of alloys by cutting. 3 cl, 4 dwg
