FIELD: production of water glass. SUBSTANCE: silica-containing material is preliminarily calcined at temperature of 500 to 600 C for 15 to 20 minutes, after which it is treated with aqueous alkali solution at concentration of 5 to 10 and temperature of 90 to 95 C followed by separation of finished product. Used as silica-containing material is gaize of Dubensky field in Ulianovsk region at content of amorphous silica of 63 to 73 %. After separation of finished product, sediment is subjected to two-stage flushing with water at ratio of solid and liquid phases of 1:2. Flushing water is mixed with alkaline solution for treatment of gaize. EFFECT: simplified process; increased yield of finished product; increased modulus of water glass. 3 cl, 4 tbl
