FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of producing liquid sodium glass which is used in construction, metallurgy, manufacturing of paper, synthetic detergents, adhesives, impregnating compounds, putty, catalysts, electrodes, adsorbents, in floatation processes, as well as in producing silica filler and fine-grained silicon dioxide. The liquid glass is obtained by hydrothermal treatment of silica-containing substance in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. The silica-containing substance used is a washed silica precipitate which contains at least 70% amorphous silica in the dry substance, which is obtained from decomposition of a nepheline concentrate with nitric acid. The silica precipitate, having moisture content of not more than 80%, is mixed with sodium hydroxide solution with concentration of 5-45% in a molar ratio which provides the required silica modulus of the liquid glass. Hydrothermal treatment of the suspension is carried out at temperature of 40-80°C. After separation, the unreacted mineral precipitate is washed and the washing water is returned into the process. The liquid glass solution is concentrated to obtain a product which corresponds to GOST 13078-81.
EFFECT: wider raw material base for obtaining liquid glass, low temperature for hydrothermal treatment of the silica suspension in an alkali solution.
