METHOD OF SYNTHESIS OF ALUMINIUM OXYCHLOROSULFATE Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of anticoagulating agents used in treatment of domestic-drinking, industrial and waste waters. Method involves treatment of aluminium hydroxide with sulfuric and hydrochloric acid aqueous solutions in different sequence followed by keeping the obtained mixture. Aluminium hydroxide is mixed with sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and water in the following molar ratio: A1(OH)₃ : H₂SO₄ : HCl : H₂O = 1 : (0.42-0.99) : (0.36-1.56) : (6-10), respectively, at temperature 100-120 C. The obtained mixture is cooled and aluminium oxychlorosulfate of the general formula: Al₂(OH)_xCl_y(SO₄)_z×mH₂O is isolated where: x + y + 2z = 6; x/y ≤ 5; x = 0.01-3.6; y = 0.72-3.12; z = 0.84-1.98; m = 12-20. The proposed method ensures to realize the universal, wasteless, ecologically safe and using the more broad raw base of technology of synthesis of coagulating agent that can be used for preparing drinking water and treatment of industrial and waste water from harmful impurities as compared with conventionally used aluminium sulfate.
