FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves providing slow-speed coking process in apparatus having two alternately charged and discharged coke drums, each having skirt welded to drum casing and serving as support for drum. Drum discharge stage involves steaming of charged drum for removing residual volatile substance; extinguishing hot coke layer with water; draining water used for coke layer extinguishing from drum; opening upper cover and drilling process opening in coke layer through open top of drum; grinding coke layer arranged between process opening and coke drum wall by means of radial water jet; discharging ground coke through drum open bottom; closing top and bottom openings; prior to supplying basic coking raw material, heating empty drum by directing hot gases withdrawn from other drum through empty drum. During supplying of drum with water for extinguishing coke layer, outer part of coke drum positioned in the vicinity of drum casing cylindrical part and supporting skirt junction zone is subjected to cooling by cooling fluid. As a result, probable occurrence of inadmissible temperature stress in drum metal casing is reduced. EFFECT: increased efficiency and enhanced reliability in operation. 8 cl, 5 dwg, 1 tbl
