FIELD: electrical and radio engineering. SUBSTANCE: power switch has at least one cylindrical arc-control chamber filled with insulating medium which is disposed along center line and incorporates power-current path as well as two fixed arcing contact systems which are positioned on center line along power- current path and axially spaced apart. Arcing contact systems are closed in ON-position to pass current by means of movable bridging contact. Arc space is provided between fixed arcing contact systems, Rated-current path runs in parallel with power-current path. Power switch is provided with at least one source holding insulating medium at high pressure. Insulating medium is passed from this source through at least one admission channel directly to arc space. Such admission at high pressure essentially raises breaking capacity of power switch. EFFECT: enhanced breaking capacity and reduced space requirement of power switch. 14 cl, 9 dwg
