FIELD: manufacture of rolled products. SUBSTANCE: method involves determining yield limit of strip σy in each roll mill stand for various steel grades; maintaining specific stretching value σs by setting the value of coefficient Cσ, which is the ratio of σs:σy. Method is characterized in that maximum allowable value of C Cσ = Cσm is set; coefficient Ct of stretch instability as ratio of maximum deviation among front and rear stretch values from nominal technologically set value and this nominal stretch value is additionally determined; angle γ between line connecting centers of working and supporting rolls and vertical plane is determined; angle β3 between line connecting centers of working and supporting rolls and line of acting force generated between rolls upon slowing down of roll mill is determined; thickness of strip and rolling force are measured in each roll mill stand; specific stretch values are maintained in individual gaps between roll mill stands. EFFECT: increased efficiency and enhanced reliability in operation by providing stable position of working rolls at variable stretch and rolling force values. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
