FIELD: rolling; production of strips. SUBSTANCE: method of setting four-high stand of continuous mill incorporates the steps of positioning the planes of work roll axes with shift e relative to support roll axes, in so doing for main groups of product mix for each stand rolling force, forward and backward tension of strip are measured; factor Kt of instability of tensions is determined as relationship of the largest deviation among forward and backward tensions from their nominal preassigned value to this nominal value of tension, angle γ is calculated between line connecting centers of work and support rolls and vertical, angle β3 is calculated between line connecting centers of work and support rolls and line of action of interroll force during deceleration of rolling mill; after that the value of shift of planes of work rolls relative to support rolls is being corrected by means of changing thickness of replaceable plates installed on support planes of chocks and back-up chocks up to its optimum value e = eopt determined as largest rated value for the whole product mix proceeding from relationship. In its turn, direction of shifting of work rolls axes relative to support roll axes for each stand is determined proceeding from the following relationships: eopt>0 -, that is shifting in direction of rolling; eopt<0, that is shifting opposite direction of rolling. EFFECT: stable position of work rolls during fluctuations of tension and rolling forces and, as a consequence, enhanced quality of rolling. 1dwg
