FIELD: railway transport; mechanization of gravity shunting on railway humps. SUBSTANCE: proposed car retarder has two brake blocks made of rectilinear sections of oil rails of good condition installed parallel to rails of hump track only inner side of car wheelset, two spring made of oil rails in good condition placed in parallel to brake blocks with clearance, and wedge installed between spring beams for travel relative to beams by command from car retarder control panel. EFFECT: improved performance and technical-and-economical indices of gravity shunting process by provision of stepless adjustment of brake forces. 5 dwg
