FIELD: methods of production of activated catalytic compositions. SUBSTANCE: catalytic composition containing noble metals of VIII group and aluminum compound with hydrocarbon substituent on aluminum oxide carrier containing up to 20 wt. % of other components taken from group including silicon dioxide, oxides of magnesium, titanium and zirconium is activated by its contacting with hydrogen-containing gas at temperature above 500 C. If aluminum composition with hydrocarbon substituent presented in catalytic composition is not halide of aluminum compound with hydrocarbon substituent, catalytic composition is activated by contacting with halide compound either before or in the course of activating stage. Invention also includes catalyst produced by the claimed method and its application in such processes of hydrocarbon conversion as polymerization. High-temperature stage of activation improves activity of catalyst produced by said method as compared with catalyst of the same composition without high-temperature stage of activation.
