FIELD: inorganic compounds technology. SUBSTANCE: process for production of superfine alkali metal- and chloride-free 98% barium chromate applicable in preparation of anticorrosive priming, light-resistant paints, and a variety of reagents consists in interaction of chromic anhydride solution with barium hydroxide solution at 50- 90 C and pH 8-12 in the end of synthesis. Resulting barium chromate suspension is filtered, potassium is washed, dried, and ground to give product with following characteristics: spreading capacity no higher than 120, dispersive ability no higher than 30, oil absorption no more than 25 g per 100 g pigment, and 100% of particles below 1 mcm in size. EFFECT: avoided involvement of Cr(VI) compounds resulting in improved environmental condition. 5 cl, 1 tbl, 6 ex
