FIELD: organic chemistry, polymers. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to functionalized copolymers of styrene and isoolefin. Invention describes synthesis of functionalized styrene-containing polymer or copolymer with isoolefin comprising in polymeric chain monomer links of the formula (1) where R1 means alkyl; R2 means residue of the formula (1a) where n means a whole number from 2 to 10; R3 means hydrogen atom or alkyl group; X means NH, O or S. Method of functionalization of styrene-containing polymer or copolymer with isoolefin involves contact of polymer or copolymer with compound of the formula (2) where y means a whole number from 2 to about 10; R3 means hydrogen or alkyl group with carbon number from 1 to about 10; A means NH or O. Contact is carried out in the presence of Lewis acid as catalyst at temperatures from about 50 C to about 100 C for time that is sufficient for polymer functionalization. Invention ensures to synthesize polymers or copolymers functionalized with primary monoalkyl groups, hydroxyalkyl or mercaptoalkyl functional groups. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis. 11 cl, 2 ex
