FIELD: joint production of ammonia and methanol; method of modernization of ammonia synthesis plant. SUBSTANCE: method of joint production of ammonia and methanol is performed according to successive scheme in section of synthesis of methanol from gas flow including carbon monoxide and dioxide and hydrogen at pressure of 50 to 100 bars and in ammonia synthesis section receiving the gas formed after separation from methanol which is free from methanol and vapor flow at high or medium pressure and temperature of 100 to 300 C. Plant for joint production of ammonia and methanol includes secondary reforming section, high-temperature section and low- temperature carbon monoxide transformation section and ammonia synthesis section which is connected with low-temperature section; unreacted gas flow from methanol synthesis section is saturated with flow of liquid before delivery to low-temperature carbon monoxide transformation section; said liquid includes water heated due to indirect heat exchange with gaseous flow delivered from secondary reforming section. Gaseous flow free from water is fed to high-temperature section from cooling and water separation stage. Method of modernization of ammonia synthesis plant includes manufacture of joint ammonia and methanol production plant provided additionally with section for cooling and separating water contained in gaseous flow from secondary reforming section. Provision is made for delivery of flow containing carbon monoxide and dioxide, hydrogen and water to low-temperature carbon monoxide transformation section.
