METHOD AND DEVICE FOR FORMING BASALT FIBERS Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: production of continuous fiber from basalt raw material for manufacture of heat-insulating and sound-insulating materials. SUBSTANCE: basalt raw material in form of crumb is molten in melting furnace at level of melt above spinneret feeder between 3 and 10 calibers. Then melt is directed to hermetic under-spinneret attachment through spinneret feeder and spinneret plates by separate jets; under-spinneret attachment is made in form of slit; then melt is directed to blast unit where basalt fibers are formed due to injection (vertical) flow and two flat flows of compressed air directed at angle not exceeding 30 deg. relative to each other. Basalt fibers thus obtained pass through entrainment separator made in form of bow and enter guide passage wherefrom they get on gauze of receiving conveyer. EFFECT: low cost of material; enhanced reliability of fiberforming unit and plant as a whole. 4 cl, 1 dwg
