FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has casing connected in sealing relation to doorway of leveler, leveling beam passed through casing and provided with lateral ribs connected through transverse ribs, and suction fan. Casing is equipped with device for sealing portion of doorway section, when door is open, and flow measuring device. Suction fan may be regulated and controlled. Said device has movable sealing members positioned in casing and adapted for sealing internal section of leveling beam between lateral ribs. Method involves connecting casing of chamber, through which leveling beam is extending, in sealing relationship to doorway; sucking gas from casing; regulating or controlling gas sucking process on the basis of measurement of flow in zone close to doorway for leveler so that gas flow does not substantially occur in this zone. Apparatus and method allow closed space to be created outside doorway and, accordingly, gasses to be prevented from being discharged.
