FIELD: removal of contaminants from material. SUBSTANCE: method involves providing contact of article made from contaminated material with flow of ionized, contaminant removing gas; using oppositely charged electrostatic filter, which together with ionized gas prevents contaminants from back settling onto material; providing combined stirring of material and contacting with ionized gas flow. Part of article made from contaminated material may be treated with compound for electrostatic removal of spots to enhance ionized gas effect and facilitate removal of contaminants. Apparatus has container with internal cavity for receiving contaminated material, gas flow discharging nozzle directed into internal cavity of container, pressurized gas source communicating with inlet opening of gas flow discharging nozzle, gas flow collector extending from pressurized gas source to gas flow discharge nozzle, and gas ionizer extending through gas flow discharge nozzle.
