FIELD: material working, namely manufacture of cutting tools. SUBSTANCE: cutting tool includes system of coatings having main layer, first intermediate layer containing boron and carbon; second intermediate layer containing boron, carbon and nitrogen and layer containing boron and nitrogen. Such coating system allows to enhance strength of coating cohesion with substrate and it is compatible with tools for drilling, turning, disintegrating and(or) forming rigid, hard-to-work materials. Such coating system is designed for cutting inserts made of metalloceramics or ceramics with use of process of physical deposition from vapor phase. Layer containing boron and nitrogen, preferably is layer of boron nitride, preferably of cubic boron nitride.
