FIELD: rubber industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hardening high-molecular polydimethylsiloxane rubbers that can be used to form protective temperatureresistant and chemically stable coatings on ferrous and nonferrous metals, their alloys, and other materials as well as for manufacturing electric insulation. Method is accomplished by means of UV irradiation in presence of photoinitiators, in particular organic carbonyl-bearing aromatic compounds of the ketone and quinone series (derivatives of benzophenone, xanthone, thioxanthone, anthrone, antraquinone) in amounts 0.005-0.01 mole per 1 kg rubber, at temperature 90-110 C in inert medium. EFFECT: improved quality of coatings due to lower destruction of polymer and reduced cost of technology. 1 tbl
