FIELD: measurement technology; measurement of level of liquid in tanks of transport facilities; measurement of depth of submergence of bodies in liquids. SUBSTANCE: sensor has electrodes and insulating layer. Electrodes are located inside insulating layer filling the inter- electrode space. Electrodes form capacitors connected in parallel. Thickness of electrodes is lesser than their width. Ratio of clearance between electrodes to their width ranges from 3 to 5. Electrodes are connected to measuring circuit in such way that their charges are alternating. Since clearance between electrodes is not filled with liquid under test, it is not choked and remains constant. Electrodes form dipole- type field due to alternating charges which diminishes in proportion to cube of distance from electrodes. Action of distant objects on sensor is insignificant. Sensor may be used for measuring level of moving fluid at hard-to-get-at areas, on surface of solid body and level of badly contaminated liquids without highly qualified servicing. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 2 cl, 3 dwg
