PORTABLE SHIELDING CONTAINER Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: storage and transportation of radioactive sources. SUBSTANCE: container has casing with eccentric stepped hole accommodating drum and capturing device inserted in the latter. Drum is, essentially, stepped cylinder with hole to receive protective plug. The latter is made in the form of tube filled up with biologic shield. Bushing-shaped interlocking device is secured to winch bracket on upper surface of drum. Bushing is fixed to spring-loaded rod contacting protective-plug head. Winch disk is provided with numbered through holes for checking position of capturing device with neutron source. Capturing device-to-source cohesion force is limited by calibrated spring. Drum has oblique hole to pass cable preventing direct streaming of radiation from neutron source. Container drum can be turned only in extreme upper position of capturing device. When in storage, source is positioned in center of container and during charging of spent fuel assemblies adjacent to container-receiving socket, container is positioned so that bevel on side surface of its casing is disposed opposite to socket being charged.
