FIELD: optical communications for data transmission networks. SUBSTANCE: method involves separation of data bursts addressed to subscribers of subscriber access center from the latter and transmission of information contained in data burst by means of directional electromagnetic radiation beam. The latter is conveyed to subscribers' receivers at respective addresses. Proposed method uses optical-band electromagnetic radiation for data transmission to users, spatial characteristics of electromagnetic radiation beam being controlled using address data of data bursts so that during transmission of definite data burst radiation beam is conveyed to respective subscriber's receiver. In one of proposed alternatives use is made of low-angular- divergence electromagnetic radiation beam and direction of its propagation is dynamically varied. In other alternative spatial characteristics of beam are controlled by means of dynamic hologram which is, essentially, optical interface between above-mentioned electromagnetic radiation beam and subscriber's receiver at particular address for each recorded subscriber's address. In this way various groups of users can be organized and given different services within single servicing sector due to using different electromagnetic radiation beams (including those of one wavelength). EFFECT: reduced capital outlays and maintenance charges per data unit transmitted at enhanced maximal access speed; improved protection against unauthorized access. 3 cl, 2 dwg
